Valparaiso My Love

The film sets out from events that took place in the port of Valparaiso. An unemployed father steals livestock to feed his children and the police arrest him. Four poor children are left behind. The story is told entirely through the children’s eyes and is divided into four parts. Each part carries their drift towards crime and towards being cast out one step further. The film does not show this as the children’s choice; it gives it as the result of the conditions they were born into. How poverty scatters a family stands at the centre. The port and the hillsides of the city stand almost as a character of their own. Aldo Francia’s ninety minute Chilean film was completed in 1969.
