Vasil

Vasil came from Bulgaria and lives on the street in Spain. He is intelligent and draws people to him, and he is extraordinary at chess and bridge. Homeless as he is, he makes a place for himself in an exclusive club in the city. But nobody there knows he is sleeping rough. Avelina Prat's film is about Vasil on one side and, on the other, the older man who takes him into his house. The relationship between them stands somewhere between help and loneliness. The telling does not build the question of migration on pity; Vasil is not someone waiting to be rescued but someone with a reckoning of his own. Ivan Barnev plays Vasil, with Karra Elejalde opposite him. It is one of the quiet recent works of Spanish cinema.
