Veeran

ARK Saravanan's 2023 Tamil film follows Kumaran, changed as a child by a lightning strike. Years later he returns to his village and sets himself against what is happening there. The film joins the superhero form to local belief. Kumaran's power is tied to village deities; the narrative does not explain it as science fiction and keeps it on the ground of folk tale. HipHop Tamizha Adhi leads and also composed the music. The tone sits between comedy and action; the effects are limited and the narrative gives wide space to village life. Who it's for: those who like Tamil fantasy action. Who it's not for: viewers expecting consistent internal logic; the film leaves its rules loose.
