Yalalt Namsrai A Ariunbyamba Sukhee What Veins of the World Is About
Amra is eleven, growing up on the Mongolian steppe between herds of goats and YouTube videos, and what he wants is to stand on the stage of the country’s talent show. But the pastures his family lives on are being torn open by international companies digging for gold, and after his father’s death the boy has to take over the fight. Byambasuren Davaa had been preparing an entirely different fourth film; returning to Mongolia and seeing what mining had done to the land, she changed the subject. The director of The Story of the Weeping Camel and The Cave of the Yellow Dog again films nomadic life from inside it rather than as a curiosity. It premiered at the Berlinale in 2020.
