A climbing party led by the experienced Vitaly Lomov goes to Svaneti to attempt a peak nobody has taken before. For several days on the mountain they can rely on nothing but themselves and each other, and where there is normally a fallback there is none. It was the first film by Stanislav Govorukhin and Boris Durov, and its real subject is not the climb but being forced back on your own judgment. Vladimir Vysotsky wrote and sang the songs in it, Song About a Friend among them, and after the film came out in 1967 those songs made him known across the whole country.
