What Very Big Shot Is About
Three brothers running a drug business out of the back of their takeaway pizzeria in a working class district of Beirut decide to go straight. A last shipment forced on them by their boss ruins the plan, and then they discover by accident that reels of exposed film are not X-rayed at the airport. Overnight they become film producers, putting a talentless director to work on a project that exists only as cover. Mir-Jean Bou Chaaya’s black comedy weighs fraud and media noise on the same scale, and spares its own industry least of all. It screened in Discovery at Toronto.
