Very Well, Thank You

Alex is an accountant and his wife Béatrice drives a taxi. Both of them lead ordinary lives. Then Alex witnesses an argument in the street, and although he does not get involved he finds himself in the machinery: the police station, a report, an institution, a procedure. Past a certain point nobody asks him what happened; only the paperwork speaks. Emmanuelle Cuau tells this not as a nightmare but in a very calm register. The institutions are not malicious; they simply keep running the way they run, and do not easily let go of anyone who ends up inside. While Béatrice fights to get her husband back she loses her own job. Gilbert Melki and Sandrine Kiberlain take the leads. A short, hard film that offers not one extra word of explanation.
