What Waiting Alone Is About
Wen runs a small shop in Beijing and wants to be a writer, but cannot get anything written. One day he thinks he has met the woman of his dreams and sets off after her. Whatever he does, he gets no further than friendship. He has friends who give him advice, and one woman friend he genuinely trusts. Dayyan Eng's film shows the Beijing of the early two thousands through the everyday life of young people: the rent, the job, the group of friends, the talk in cafés. Xia Yu takes the lead, with Li Bingbing and Gong Beibi also in the cast. The film did unexpectedly well in China and was counted among the first to speak to the young audience of that moment.
