War

Kabir, India's best intelligence officer, disappears in the field and becomes a target of his own agency. The job of catching him goes to Khalid, whom he trained years earlier. Khalid's father was once branded a traitor and the young officer has been proving himself ever since. The two chase each other around the world. The subject is not espionage but the account between a student and his teacher. Every fight is built on that relationship: who trained whom, and whose favour the training runs in. The form is pure spectacle. A motorcycle chase in the Arctic, a car sequence in Italy, a dive in Portugal; each section is in another country with another vehicle. The narrative exists to connect them. It took the highest opening-day gross in Indian cinema to that date and became the year's biggest earner. The physical preparation of the two leads was central to the marketing. Hrithik Roshan plays Kabir, Tiger Shroff plays Khalid and Vaani Kapoor takes the female lead. Siddharth Anand directs. Who it is for: viewers who like large-scale Indian action and spy films. Who it is not for: anyone looking for logic; the plot exists to join the sequences and the late reversals are forced.
