What When the Last Sword Is Drawn Is About

Kanichiro Yoshimura is a samurai of a provincial clan whose pay will not feed his wife and children. To support them he goes to Kyoto and joins the Shinsengumi, the shogunate's armed force in the city, and sends home what he earns. Those around him look down on a samurai who thinks about money; saying so was shameful then. The film tells his story through two men remembering him years later. These are the years the shogunate fell and the samurai class ended. It runs over two hours and is about carrying weight more than about fighting.
