Where Is Enohp Located?

A Soviet comedy. A shy, unmarried man of forty cannot find the nerve to ask a woman out. His womanising friend, who has promised the man's parents to find him someone, steps in and takes on the job, his method being to approach women in the street and start a conversation. The title comes from that method: he asks women where the nofelet is, nofelet being the Russian word for telephone spelled backwards. In other words a meaningless word invented as a pretext. The comedy comes out of the repeated trick and from the shy man ending up worse off every time. Vladimir Menshov plays him. It is one of the better liked Soviet box office comedies of the late 1980s.
