What Where the Trail Ends Is About
The best freeride mountain bikers in the world set out to find terrain nobody has ridden before. They go to the mountains of China, Nepal, Argentina, the United States and Canada. The camera watches them both on the descent and while they prepare it: drawing the line, shoring up the rock, working out the odds of a fall. Jeremy Grant's documentary is known as much for its images as for the sport: shots taken from a long way off show how small a person is against the landscape. The telling does not hide the risk; the crashes and the injuries are in the film. Darren Berrecloth, Kurt Sorge and Cam McCaul are among the riders. The production itself is set up like an expedition: carrying the equipment out to that terrain is half the work of the descent.
