Luzimar cycles to and from the textile mill in Cataguases every day, a hardworking man trying to make the most of what he has. One day his childhood friend Gildo turns up in an expensive car with an account of the successful life he has built in São Paulo. The two of them sit down over a beer and memories, regrets and old resentments slowly rise to the surface, and this Christmas Eve meeting brings a wound they share out onto the table with them. José Luiz Villamarim’s hundred minute Brazilian film was adapted from the stories of Luiz Ruffato, and it uses silence almost as a character. Irandhir Santos and Júlio Andrade star, with Dira Paes and Cássia Kis in support.
