White Bim Black Ear

Bim is a hunting dog, white-coated with one black ear. His owner Ivan Ivanovich is old, alone, and fond of nature and of shooting. Because the dog's colouring counts as a defect for his breed nobody wants him, so the man takes him. They live together for years. Then Ivan Ivanovich's heart gives out and he is taken to hospital. Bim cannot bear the waiting, goes out into the street to look for him, and the city puts him in front of a great many people, kind and otherwise. Stanislav Rostotsky directed the film from Gavriil Troyepolsky's novel, the two of them writing the screenplay together. Vyacheslav Tikhonov plays the owner. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for best foreign language film as the Soviet Union's entry.
