White Night

Won-gyu left Korea two years ago. He comes back to Seoul as a flight attendant on a single night's layover, and nostalgia has nothing to do with it: he wants to find the men whose attack drove him out of the city. Tae-joon, the courier he meets that night, is after something else entirely. Leesong Hee-il wrote the film out of a real homophobic street assault in Jongno, and he keeps its seventy five minutes inside more or less one night, letting the city and the distance between the two men shift as they walk. Revenge is never offered here as a solution, only as one more thing that is exhausting to carry. It premiered at the Jeonju festival in 2012.
