Who’s Stopping Us

The film is about young people born at the start of the twenty first century who have just reached adulthood. It stands somewhere between documentary and fiction; in front of the camera the young people both play themselves and are themselves. They talk about love, friendship, politics and school. The film’s argument is that the charges laid against this generation are unfair, and that argument is the film’s own. The account does not try to explain the young; it makes room for them to speak. The two hundred and twenty minutes are used to listen without hurry. The presence of the camera is not hidden; they know it is there and they use it. Candela Recio, Pablo Hoyos and Silvio Aguilar are among those who appear in Jonás Trueba’s Spanish film, completed in 2021.
