No Other Land

A documentary recording the demolition of an area in the West Bank. Basel is a Palestinian activist living in Masafer Yatta. The area has been declared a military training zone and houses are being demolished. Basel has filmed these demolitions since childhood; his father did the same. Yuval is an Israeli journalist. He comes to report and stays. The film is built on the relationship between them. They do the same work under conditions that are not the same: one can leave whenever he wants and the other cannot. That difference keeps surfacing in their conversations. The footage spans five years. Houses demolished, a school closed, a water source sealed and people moving into caves are documented in turn. It was shot and directed by a collective of four, with both Palestinian and Israeli members. The film won the documentary prize in Berlin and the Oscar for best documentary in 2025.
