Wilding

David Allen's 2024 documentary is about a failing four-hundred-year-old estate in England. Its owners decide to stop farming and hand the land back to nature. The fences come down and grazing animals are brought in. The documentary also describes the resistance of the early years, with neighbours and the farming world objecting, and the narrative measures the results across decades. Isabella Tree and Charlie Burrell tell their own story. Nature footage takes wide space. The tone is optimistic. Who it's for: viewers of nature documentary and the debate about ecological restoration. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a critical assessment; the documentary stands with the project.
