Winds of Havana

In Havana a young, outspoken teacher is killed. Detective Mario Conde takes the case, and the trail leads to a drug boss whose connections reach as far as the high school Conde himself attended. What follows is having to solve a murder and to look at his own past at the same time. The film comes from Leonardo Padura’s Mario Conde books and tells the crime together with the decay of the city. Conde is no heroic policeman; he is tired, fond of reading, and has watched his own generation scatter. The account cares less about the investigation than about the state of that generation. Jorge Perugorria plays the lead in Felix Viscarret’s ninety five minute film, completed in 2016.
