Wish Man

Frank Shankwitz is a motorcycle patrol officer in Arizona. He still carries the mark of being separated from his father as a boy. On duty he has a severe accident and barely survives; then he faces an accusation of police brutality. His life is falling apart. Around this time he meets a terminally ill boy: Chris wants to be a policeman and has very little time. The real events happened in Arizona in 1980. Seven-year-old Chris Greicius had leukaemia and wanted to be a highway patrol officer; he was given a uniform, a badge and motor officer's wings, and became the only honorary officer in the history of the Arizona Highway Patrol. He died a few days later. That same year Shankwitz, together with his wife Kitty and several other people, founded the Make-A-Wish Foundation and served as its president until 1984. The film tells it as though he founded it alone; the founding was in fact a joint effort. Tom Sizemore is in the cast.
