Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie

On holiday in the Caribbean with her family, Alex Russo loses her temper and wishes her parents had never met. The wish takes, and reality shifts: Jerry and Theresa do not know each other or their children. The three siblings have to find a magical stone to undo it. It adapts the Disney Channel series, with Selena Gomez in the lead. Filming ran from February to March 2009, mostly in San Juan, Puerto Rico, making it only the second Disney Channel movie shot there. The premiere numbers were extraordinary: 11.4 million viewers, making it cable's number one scripted telecast of 2009 and second only to High School Musical 2 among Disney Channel movie premieres. It won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program in 2010, with Imagen Award nominations as well. Who it is for: people who watched the series and anyone nostalgic for the Disney Channel look of the 2000s. Who it is not for: newcomers. The character relationships go unexplained and the family's rules of magic are assumed throughout.
