Out

This short from Pixar's experimental programme opens with Greg, about to move house, unable to tell his parents about his boyfriend. When they turn up unannounced he panics, and at that moment a piece of magical mischief swaps his body with his dog's. The premise is comic and its function is not: Greg can only hear what his mother actually thinks about him from outside his own body. Directed by Steven Clay Hunter, it was noted as the first Pixar work with a gay lead character, and it went straight to Disney's streaming service without a cinema run. It lasts about ten minutes, and the whole task is saying one sentence out loud. Who it is for: viewers who like short animation and coming out stories. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a developed narrative, since this holds to a single moment.
