Wolfy

A mother without a name and a girl without a name. The mother keeps running off to start a new life, and the girl keeps running after her because she does not know how to exist without her. The same mistakes repeat, the same leaving happens over and over, like a spinning top going round. The top was the first toy the girl ever had, the one thing her mother left her. The playwright Vasily Sigarev's first film is set in provincial Russia and offers consolation at no point in it. Yana Troyanova plays the mother; the child is unnervingly still in front of the camera. It is about how far love will stretch when nothing comes back, and it is hard to sit through and impossible to forget.
