Living

Three separate stories, all in the same cold Russian provinces. Galya lost her twin daughters to her drinking and is trying to get them back from the institution. Grishka and Anton have just married; right after the wedding Anton is killed, and Grishka goes on seeing him. Artyom waits for his father to come back and his mother does not want that. What links the three is that death has come near them and each is trying to bring a dead person back. The film shows this not as denial but as a way of holding on. Vasiliy Sigarev directs the Russian film; a hundred and nineteen minutes, with Yana Troyanova and Olga Lapshina in the cast. Sigarev is a playwright, and as in his plays the material here turns on the provinces, drink and death. It is his second feature.
