What Work Hard, Play Hard Is About
Philippe is twenty five, newly arrived in Paris from the provinces, and starting at a management consultancy. His first assignment is an audit of a factory that a larger group intends to buy, a sale the workforce knows nothing about, and the report he writes will decide who keeps a job. Jean-Marc Moutout spent time with working consultants and with factory employees before shooting, and calls the result documented fiction. Nobody in it is a villain. What the film watches instead is the way professional language turns people into line items, and the way a young man's ambition and his conscience can occupy the same room without ever speaking to each other.
