Worlds Apart

Makio is a shy novelist of thirty five. When her sibling and her sibling’s partner are killed in a car accident, she meets her fifteen year old niece Asa at the funeral; the girl is now on her own. When the other relatives say careless things in front of the girl, Makio loses her temper and decides to take her in. A woman who has trouble with people and a girl who has just lost her parents begin living together. Adapted from a comic, the film is about how grief looks at two different ages and about how two people manage each other. Yui Aragaki appears in Natsuki Seta’s hundred and thirty nine minute Japanese film, completed in 2024.
