Yadang: The Snitch

Hwang Byeong-gug's 2025 South Korean film is about the informants who trade information for reduced sentences in drug cases. Known in Korea as yadang, these people stand between the prosecution and the criminal world, neither fully criminal nor fully official, and both sides use them. Lee Kang-su has made a profession of it; when the children of well known families are caught in a raid at a party the file becomes a political matter and he finds himself between two fires. The film centres the triangle of prosecutor, police and informant and shows none of them as clean. The tone moves between action and black humour at a high pace. It keeps to the familiar crime shape of Korean commercial cinema and the violence rises in the final section. Who it's for: viewers who like Korean crime films. Who it's not for: anyone avoiding drug use and hard violence.
