What Yes Nurse! No Nurse! Is About
Adapted from a much loved Dutch television series of the 1960s, this musical comedy takes place in Nurse Klivia's guest house. Everyone inside is cheerful, everyone is in everyone else's business, and the door is always open. The neighbour, Boordevool, detests this communal way of living and has spent years looking for a reason to have the place shut down. When one of the young women meets a lad named Gerrit, and Klivia takes him in knowing perfectly well that he is a thief, the opening the neighbour has been waiting for appears to arrive. Pieter Kramer stages it in deliberately artificial, brightly coloured sets that smell of the theatre, using nostalgia as material rather than imitation.
