What Yesterday Is About

The 1960s were the years of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and of the sexual revolution, and their echo reaches an English language school in Bulgaria as well. At this elite boarding school in Sofia the pupils are the children of diplomats and party officials, and the rigid order of the place and its narrow minded teachers provoke a reaction from the students that keeps growing. Ivan Andonov’s eighty minute film neither glorifies nor patronises that generation; it leaves the first collision with the limits of the system exactly as it is. Hristo Shopov and Georgi Staykov star. It opened on 25 January 1988 and won the audience prize at Varna and the grand prize at Sanremo.
