Fork in the Road

Mazhar Kozanli has given his whole life to growing the textile empire he inherited from his father. After an accident, the way he sees his life changes, and he can no longer look at the factory, the family or the order he built with the same eyes. The film is not interested in critiquing business. It is interested in a reckoning arriving late: the man realises he paid for what he lost with what he gained, and finds that the people around him will not accept the change. The family's reaction is the harshest thing in it. The form is Yavuz Turgul's usual construction: long conversation scenes, sharp lines, and a character drawn as the representative of a class. The pair's history frames the film. Turgul and Sener Sen had worked together on Muhsin Bey, Eskiya, Gonul Yarasi and Av Mevsimi, and Turgul also wrote Tosun Pasa, in which Sen appeared. Here too a late conscience sits at the centre. The film opened on 10 November 2017 and was shot in Istanbul. Rutkay Aziz, Mert Firat, Nihal Yalcin and Cigdem Selisik Onat are in the cast. Who it is for: viewers who follow Turgul's cinema and Sener Sen's late roles. Who it is not for: anyone who wants a fast narrative. The film is long, talkative, and repeats its message more than once.
