You Drive Me Crazy

Darya Lebedeva's 2025 Russian film follows Alisa, who moves into a spacious flat in St Petersburg. The mirror there malfunctions and shows a parallel version of the same flat, where Ivan, a party-goer, lives instead of Alisa. The film turns its fantastical setup into a relationship comedy. The two see and talk to each other without sharing the space, but can never physically be in the same place. That constraint is the source of both the humour and the tension. The narrative follows the familiar template of the genre and makes wide use of the city. Mila Ershova leads. The mirror's rules bend to the film's needs and the logic slackens entirely in the final section. Who it's for: those who like fantastical romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a fantasy that keeps to its own rules; the film does not run them consistently.
