You Instead

A film set at a music festival and shot at that festival. Adam is an American pop star, Morello sings for an electro punk band. They argue backstage at a festival in Scotland. In the middle of it a stranger handcuffs them together and disappears with the key. Both of them have to be on stage that day. They cannot break the cuffs, they cannot find anyone, and they start moving through the festival site tied to each other. Adam's fiancée is there too, and so are Morello's bandmates. The most striking thing about it is the production. It was filmed during a real festival, inside the crowd, and it took only a few days. The audience in the scenes are not extras. That method gains and loses at once: the energy of the crowd and the concert footage are real, but part of the dialogue is improvised and the script stays thin. Luke Treadaway and Natalia Tena lead. Tena is also a musician and sings the band's songs herself. David Mackenzie directed. A pleasant choice for anyone who likes concert films and light romantic comedy. For a viewer looking for a solid plot, the film sets out with one idea and leaves the rest to the festival.
