What Young Mr. Lincoln Is About
Growing up in Illinois, the young Abraham Lincoln decides to study law at the urging of his first love, Ann Rutledge. After her death he opens a practice in Springfield, where he meets a young Mary Todd. The real test comes when he takes on the defence of two brothers accused of murder, with a town ready to lynch them and nothing in his hands but patience and a few good questions. John Ford films a man who would become a legend while he is still nothing in particular, in a calm and faintly wry register. Henry Fonda plays Lincoln.
