Young Werther

Ismaël is thirteen. He has lost his closest friend. His friend took his own life. Nobody had expected it. Ismaël had no idea. Nor did any of the others. The children go looking for a reason. Perhaps it had to do with a girl who lived nearby. Ismaël is drawn to her himself. Perhaps it was something else. Trouble with a teacher is talked over too. None of them arrives at a firm answer, and most of the film is those conversations. The friend who died is talked about from beginning to end. Ismaël Jolé-Ménébhi, Faye Anastasia and Jessica Tharaud appear in the ninety three minute film, a French production Jacques Doillon finished in 1993.
