Yuku and the Himalayan Flower

Yuku is a young mouse who lives with her family in the cellar of a castle. Her grandmother passes on the values of the family by telling her old folk tales. Injured in a scuffle with a cat, the old mouse takes to her bed and tells her children that she will have to follow the little blind mole into the tunnels under the earth. In one of her grandmother’s storybooks Yuku reads that the flower of the Himalayas can give an everlasting light, and she sets out to find it. The film does not hide death from a young audience, but does not make it frightening either. The account breaks the journey with songs and keeps each encounter short. Its hand drawn images stand close to the texture of watercolour. The sixty five minute French animated film by Remi Durin and Arnaud Demuynck was completed in 2022.
