What Ask Your Heart Is About
Esma and Mustafa love each other, but their love has an obstacle particular to its period and its region: Mustafa is a secret Christian, and everyone including Esma takes him for a Muslim. When legal reforms in the Ottoman state place Christian subjects on an equal footing with Muslims, the church asks those who have kept their faith hidden to declare it at last. Mustafa is caught between the church and the woman he loves, because if it becomes known that he is a Christian, marrying Esma is possible neither socially nor in law. He thinks of leaving and telling her the truth himself, but a sudden turn changes everything. Tuba Buyukustun appears in Yusuf Kurcenli’s hundred and fifteen minute Turkish film, completed in 2010.
