Woody Allen's 1983 film follows a man whose appearance and behaviour change to match whoever he is with. He becomes famous in the nineteen-twenties. A doctor tries to treat him. The film presents itself as an old documentary; the narrative makes the wish to fit in its real subject. The actors were placed inside real footage of the period. The image and sound were deliberately aged. Mia Farrow is in the cast. Who it's for: those who like formally inventive comedy. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a straight plot; it is built as a mock documentary.
