Steve Zahn

Steve Zahn's Independent Spirit award and the review of that same film contradict one another. Philip Kemp, assessing it, writes that Zahn and Illeana Douglas, playing the secondary couple, get less support from the screenplay and overact accordingly, and the same piece hands the acting honours to William H. Macy. The institution, for its part, gave the supporting actor award for that film to Zahn. His second item came eight years afterwards and stayed a nomination, for Rescue Dawn. Kemp praises Jeremy Northam's measured comic playing in the same piece and says Ally Walker partners him well, so the censure falls on that pair rather than on the whole cast.
