Steve Zahn What Neat: The Story of Bourbon Is About
The documentary treats bourbon not as a product to be sold but as a craft and a family business running through Kentucky. Two people anchor it: Freddie Johnson, a third generation employee at Buffalo Trace, and Marianne Barnes, master distiller at Castle and Key. Along with figures such as Jimmy Russell they describe how the thing is actually made and why it takes as long as it does, while the actor Steve Zahn drops in between segments to gather up the facts. The best part of David M. Altrogge's 2018 film is not the production but the people: what it means to do one job for forty years, and to have taken it over from your father.
