Alejandro G. Iñárritu

9 films

The first three films Alejandro G. Inarritu made share one pattern: people who do not know each other cross around a single event. He wrote Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Babel with the screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga, and after Babel the two did not work together again, which ended the fractured construction as well. Its opposite arrived in place of it: Birdman, from 2014, gives the impression of one unbroken take, put together with a handheld camera and concealed transitions. He reached cinema by way of radio and advertising, making programmes on WFM radio in Mexico City, writing music for Mexican films and shooting commercials under the name Zeta Film before his first feature in 2000. Birdman took best picture, director and original screenplay at the 87th Academy Awards in 2015, and The Revenant won him the directing Oscar a second time at the ceremony after, in 2016.
