2 Seconds

Laurie is a professional downhill racer whose career ends when she loses her last race by two seconds, which is where the title comes from. She goes back to Montreal, her brother takes her in, and she starts work at a bicycle courier company. A broken chain takes her into a bike shop on a quiet street, where she meets Lorenzo, a gruff Italian who was a champion in his youth. While someone in the courier group works at shutting her out, the friendship with Lorenzo grows and Laurie begins to see what she has to do about her own life. Manon Briand wrote and directed, and this first feature took awards for best director, best first feature and best Canadian film. Charlotte Laurier plays Laurie and Dino Tavarone plays Lorenzo. It screened at Sundance in 1999.
