25 Fireman's Street

An apartment house is waiting to be pulled down. The building is in Hungary. One hot summer night passes. The residents cannot sleep. Each of them goes back over the past. The film moves through dreams. Memory and imagination run into each other. The years before the war come up. Prejudice and exclusion belong to those years. Then the Nazi occupation. After that the Stalinist period. Every tenant remembers their own share of it. Losses, joys and regrets sit side by side. Next to all that, the demolition order counts for little. The film won the Golden Leopard at Locarno in 1974. Lucyna Winnicka and András Bálint appear in the ninety seven minute film, a Hungarian production István Szabó finished in 1973.
