What 438 Days Is About
In June 2011 the Swedish journalists Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson crossed illegally from Somalia into Ethiopia to report on what the hunt for oil was doing to the people of the Ogaden. Five days later they were lying wounded in the sand, captured by the army, and after a trial on terrorism charges they were sentenced to eleven years. The film is mostly about the days that followed inside prison, where their cellmates were also journalists, writers and dissidents. The number in the title is how long they were held before a pardon released them.
