Five friends have been together every day for years. They go to the same places, make the same jokes and see nobody but each other. One day they make a decision: for three months they will not meet at all. No calls, no messages. At the end of it they will meet somewhere. Three months pass. The meeting place is a railway station and they set out from there. The destination is Semeru, the highest point in Java. The climb is hard and none of them is experienced. A girl joins them on the way and the things unsaid inside the group open up. Rizal Mantovani directs. Fedi Nuril, Herjunot Ali, Pevita Pearce and Denny Sumargo are in the cast. It is an Indonesian production. The source is Donny Dhirgantoro's novel. The novel was a bestseller in Indonesia and widely read among the young. The film took a strong result at the box office and a sequel was made. It was shot on Semeru itself; the crew went up the mountain and worked at altitude. The number of visitors to the mountain rose after the production, which caused argument in the region. The matter it treats is whether friendship holds; the separation is set up as a test. The landscape is its main material and the climbing sections are held long. Its limit is structure; the dialogue is didactic, the characters shallow and the ending too tidy. Who it is for: viewers who like Indonesian films about the young and mountain narratives. Who it is not for: it is didactic, the characters thin, and the pace uneven.
