What 7 Days in Heaven Is About
The film follows, step by step, the seven days of Taoist mourning rites after the death of Lin Guo Yuan: officials telling people when to weep, rituals that misfire, old accounts between family members. Death here is both real grief and a strange piece of event management, and the film sees both at once. The source is an autobiographical essay by the co-director Essay Liu about her own family, which won the Lin Rong-San literary award. Liu and Wang Yu-lin directed together and it opened on 27 August 2010. The English summary in the record writes morning where it means mourning; one letter, but it changes what the sentence says.
