What A Bread Factory, Part One: For the Sake of Gold Is About
For forty years Dorothea and Greta have run an arts space they call The Bread Factory in Checkford, a small town in upstate New York, carrying the cultural life of the place with acting workshops and other programmes. When two celebrity performance artists from China put up an enormous complex down the street, the balance of the town shifts and the two women find themselves defending not the place they live in but their own existence, with the town’s funding, the school programmes and the question of who counts as an artist all landing on the table.
