What The Grief of Others Is About
The Ryrie family has suffered a loss: a baby who died fifty seven hours after his birth. The parents, John and Ricky, cannot find words for it and try to return to their earlier lives. Ten year old Biscuit and thirteen year old Paul answer the unnamed tension in the house in strange ways of their own. As each withdraws into a private grief, an unexpected guest arrives and the family begins to notice the weight other people are carrying too. The film tells grief not as a scene but as the way something unspoken moves through a house. It was adapted from a novel. Wendy Moniz appears in Patrick Wang’s hundred and three minute American film, completed in 2015.
