Pascal Ichak, a French traveller, bon vivant and passionate cook, falls in love at the start of the twenties with Georgia and with a Georgian princess he meets there. All is going well when the Red Army enters the Caucasus; the revolution that swept Russia reaches Georgia too and the life he had built comes apart. The story is told backwards from the present: a French Georgian man whose mother was Pascal’s lover is translating the cook’s memoirs for his niece. Food here is not decoration but a form of resistance and of remembering. Pierre Richard and Nino Kirtadze appear in Nana Jorjadze’s hundred minute film, completed in 1996.
