What A Far Off Place Is About
Nonnie grew up on a farm in Africa; Harry is a city boy over from America. When ivory poachers raid the farm and kill Nonnie's parents, the two of them have to run, and the only route open to them is on foot across the Kalahari. A San hunter finds them, and the three set out on a walk that takes weeks. Mikael Salomon directs, adapted from the books of Laurens van der Post. It is a Disney adventure and, for a children's film, unexpectedly hard. One of Reese Witherspoon's first leading roles, shot on location in the desert.
