A Goofy Movie

Kevin Lima’s first feature is a spin-off from the series Goof Troop, set three years later. The road trip came from Jeffrey Katzenberg, who described a car journey planned with his daughter to the show’s story supervisor Jymn Magon. Max is spoken by Jason Marsden and sung by Aaron Lohr, replacing Dana Hill from the series. At one point Katzenberg wanted to take Goofy from Bill Farmer and hand him to Steve Martin in his ordinary voice. Farmer spent weeks recording in his own speaking voice before redoing everything in the familiar Goofy voice, across more than 25 sessions. The work was spread over four countries: main animation in Paris at Walt Disney Animation France under Paul and Gaëtan Brizzi, with units in Sydney, Burbank and Canada, and digital paint at Pixibox in France. A single dead pixel spotted on a monitor during a screening forced three quarters of the film to be recaptured, sliding the date from November 1994 to April 1995. Tevin Campbell sings Powerline. At the 23rd Annie Awards it took five nominations and won none. A good fit if you will accept Goofy played as a father estranged from his son rather than as a gag machine. Not for anyone bothered that the concert finale is sung by a different actor than the one speaking.
